Sex-education work with girls

Sex-education work with girls

In 1995 the BZgA commissioned an expert report on “sex-education work with girls”. The results of practical research as well as a search of the literature in 1998 showed changes in the size of the target group, the subjects and approaches etc., so that in 1999 a second report was commissioned.

The second report shows that since the mid-nineties the work with girls has become particularly more established in the federal states of Eastern Germany. Almost all associations, organizations and institutions whichdo youth work have concepts for work with girls. In addition some associations published policy documents on how for example to handle sexual violence and on the goals of preventive work in their own organization or on the recognition of homosexual living arrangements.

The results of the second nationwide questionnaire provide an overview of
  • current conceptual foundations of institutions and initiatives,
  • professional and educational standards that changed in the years between the two surveys and
  • innovative impulses in work with girls.
In the context of data collection the weighting of various sex-educational topics was also noted.

The data were supplemented by evaluations of statements made by institutions of all funding bodies and supplementary interviews with experts. These contributions create a complex picture of opinions, approaches and methods in work with girls.
